Nexium (esomeprazole) is an anti-acid prescription medication prescribed to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD or heartburn; acid reflux), ulcers and erosive esophagitis, or other common symptoms caused by the overproduction of acid in the stomach.

Only take Nexium as directed to by your doctor or your pharmacist. Take each pill with a full glass of water. Do not break or crush the pills they are sealed with a special coating that allows them to time-release in your system. If you miss a dose make sure you take it at the first chance that you get and keep on taking your other scheduled doses.

While this drug may be right for most people there are some people who may not be able to take Nexium including: women who are pregnant or nursing, anybody who is allergic to the ingredients in Nexium, and people who currently suffer from liver disease. Always ask your doctor if this drug is the right anti-acid drug for you.
In order to avoid any dangerous drug interactions or allergic reactions from occurring make sure that you tell your medical care practitioner about any and EVERY single drug that you are currently taking including over-the-counter drugs and herbal remedies. Those who are currently taking drugs that contain: digoxin (Lanoxin, Lanoxicaps), itraconazole (Sporanox), ketoconazole (Nizoral), or iron (Feosol, Mol-Iron, Fergon, and Femiron) may not be able to take Nexium.
