There\u2019s good news and bad news.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>The good news and bad news<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Researchers don\u2019t believe that masturbation has any long-term effects on testosterone levels, although it can be difficult to study because most people aren\u2019t willing to masturbate in a lab setting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As for the short-term effects of masturbation, it does seem to decrease testosterone levels, as well as sex drive.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Abstinence and testosterone<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re looking to raise your testosterone levels, abstinence (from sex and masturbation) may help. Several studies have found that taking a break from masturbation or sex of any kind appears to help after a certain time has passed.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A 2003 study evaluated testosterone levels before and after 3 weeks of abstinence from masturbation and found that after the 3 weeks was up, the hormone\u2019s levels were higher.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Another 2003 study measured the hormone after a variety of number of days of abstinence. They found that, although testosterone levels didn\u2019t change much between the second and fifth days of abstinence, they had peaked by day seven.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A 2001 study looked at testosterone levels before and after a 3-week break from masturbation. The data showed that the hormones was highest after the 3 weeks of abstinence.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Low testosterone<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unless you get your hormones checked, you won\u2019t know for sure if you have low testosterone. There are, however, some common signs and symptoms to look for, including:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> erectile dysfunction<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> decreased body or facial hair<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> low muscle mass<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> mood changes<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> reduced strength or endurance<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> memory loss<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> difficulty staying focused<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> trouble sleeping<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s easy to treat low testosterone levels via gel, a patch or even an injection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don\u2019t worry that you might have high testosterone. It\u2019s quite uncommon and is more of a concern in young children, who could start puberty sooner than their peers.
