Low testosterone may also lower your sperm count.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Known as \u201chypogonadism,\u201d low testosterone production in the testicles doesn\u2019t always need treatment. Even if you do need treatment, it\u2019s not safe for everyone. In fact, the Food &amp; Drug Administration has only approved testosterone therapy for men who have low testosterone because of disorders in the brain, testicles and pituitary gland. Testosterone replacement therapy isn\u2019t approved for age-related decline.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Administering testosterone injections<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You may be able choose whether to have a doctor give you the shots (in the buttocks) at their office or do them at home yourself (in the thigh).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Even if you choose to do the injections yourself at home, you will need to visit your doctor every few months to check in and monitor your changes.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Risk of testosterone injections<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For most men, testosterone injections are safe, although there is always a risk. Possible side effects and complications include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> a greater risk of venous thrombosis<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> a greater risk of polycythemia (a rare type of blood cancer)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> problems in the lower urinary tract<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> a greater risk of cardiovascular problems<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> an allergic reaction<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> acne<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> back pain<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> joint pain<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> mood swings<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> breast pain or enlargement<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> headaches<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Some forms of testosterone may raise your blood pressure, which can increase your risk of a heart attack or stroke.
