But research indicates that couples who engage in fun activities together may find it easier to stay together. There\u2019s science behind the move: one study found that partners who took part in fun activities saw an increase in the \u201clove hormone,\u201d oxytocin, which helps with bonding.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>\n<h3><b> Spend time without your partner<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Spending time without your partner\u2014either alone, with friends or family\u2014can be important in developing your sense of self and closeness in a relationship to avoid feeling \u201ctrapped\u201d by one person.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cA healthy relationship is a bit like breathing in and then breathing out,\u201d explains Alex Psaila, clinical supervisor at Relate North and South West Sussex, a charity that provides relationship mediation and support. \u201cIf the relationship is too loose, suffocating even, then the couple [becomes] merged and there is little scope for exploration and growth, of other interactions, of missing your loved one and wanting to return, bringing new ideas and energy into the relationship.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>\n<h3><b> Show your partner appreciation<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A 2017 study found that one of the main reasons for long-term break-ups was that one of the partners wasn\u2019t showing enough attention and affection.
