But it only affects about 2.1% of men and is usually more common as men get older. Here\u2019s what you need to know about male menopause.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Symptoms of male menopause<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Unlike female menopause, decreases in hormones aren\u2019t typically severe. Men may also experience hot flashes, moodiness, loss of muscle mass, irritability, dry skin, fatigue, depression, sweating and the build-up of fat around the chest and abdomen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The most common symptoms of male menopause are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> decline in libido<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> erectile dysfunction<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> fewer morning erections\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You may also find that you have trouble bending, kneeling, stooping, lifting heavy objects, running and even walking more than half a mile or so.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Causes of male menopause<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Because not all men experience andropause with aging, experts don\u2019t believe that it\u2019s a standard part of aging.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It\u2019s important to note that after age 30, testosterone tends to decline at a rate of about 1% per year. So, while male menopause does appear to occur in older men with decreased testosterone, they are more prevalent in older men with:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> type 2 diabetes<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> obesity<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> heart disease<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> high blood pressure<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Other risk factors<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Some men are more likely to experience male menopause. These include men who:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> don\u2019t exercise<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> smoke<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> consume alcohol<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> having excessive stress and anxiety<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> are sleep deprived<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Treatment<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There is no single treatment for men who experience male menopause. Doctors will do a thorough exam, blood tests and possibly, scans. When it comes to treating symptoms, this could range from weight management and creating an exercise routine to controlling blood glucose levels, treating depression and\/or anxiety, assisting with sleep apnea issues and implementing dietary changes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Although some cases may include testosterone therapy, it may come with risks, including prostate cancer, blockage of the urinary tract, epilepsy, sleep apnea and ischemic heart disease.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Male menopause, sometimes called \u201candropause,\u201d produces a variety of effects on men\u2019s bodies, including declining testosterone.
