{"id":15967,"date":"2021-04-15T13:00:57","date_gmt":"2021-04-15T13:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.healthymale.com\/squad\/?p=15967"},"modified":"2021-04-15T13:00:57","modified_gmt":"2021-04-15T13:00:57","slug":"changing-mealtime-could-reduce-your-risk-for-type-2-diabetes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.healthymale.com\/blog\/nutrition\/changing-mealtime-could-reduce-your-risk-for-type-2-diabetes\/","title":{"rendered":"Changing Mealtime Could Reduce Your Risk for Type 2 Diabetes\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Researchers at the University of Surrey are researching how the time of day a person eats may reduce the risk of obesity, and cholesterol levels associated with type 2 diabetes. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 10-week <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1111\/nbu.12479\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> led by Dr. Denise Robertson will study 51 participants between the ages of 18-65 who have a risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The participants have been broken into 3 groups:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A control group<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Group eating between 7 A.M. and 3 P.M.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Group eating between 12 P.M. and 8 P.M.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The groups will be interviewed to determine if these time changes influence their eating habits. Their friends and families will also be interviewed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Why is this study important?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Presently, type 2 diabetes diagnoses are not declining. The<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/diabetes\/basics\/type2.html\"><b>CDC<\/b><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reports that over 34 million Americans have diabetes (around 1 in 10) and approximately 90-95% of them have type 2 diabetes. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Changing our mealtimes limits our energy intake to a set number of hours in the day, which leads to an extension of the daily fast that generally happens overnight,\u201d said Jonathan Johnston, Professor of Chronobiology and Integrative Physiology at the University of Surrey. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis study will help us understand what time of day is optimal to eat to reduce our chances of developing Type 2 diabetes,\u201d said Dr. Johnston.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Are you constantly eating?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Food, be it snacks, fast food, or regular meals, is often available for many men all day long. It is easy to grab a bagel in the morning with coffee, fries, and a burger for lunch, a candy bar snack, and finally 3 pieces of pizza for supper. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before you know it\u2019s bedtime and you didn\u2019t eat anything healthy all day long. Limiting the number of hours that food is available to you may be a good choice if you are dealing with the risk of diabetes. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don\u2019t change your meal plans if you have not discussed them with your medical provider.
