{"id":16178,"date":"2021-06-11T13:00:02","date_gmt":"2021-06-11T13:00:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.healthymale.com\/squad\/?p=16178"},"modified":"2021-06-11T13:00:02","modified_gmt":"2021-06-11T13:00:02","slug":"what-you-should-know-about-new-adhesive-diabetes-devices","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.healthymale.com\/blog\/uncategorized\/what-you-should-know-about-new-adhesive-diabetes-devices\/","title":{"rendered":"What You Should Know About New Adhesive Diabetes Devices"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For people that live with diabetes, there are many challenges associated with wearing a diabetes device as the adhesives can be a real struggle, particularly that develop skin reactions to included ingredients. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For years, the industry has released new innovations that proclaim various levels of stickiness for people to select from or even<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/diabetesmine\/diabetes-device-adhesives\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">smart adhesives<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that automatically adjust to a person\u2019s skin. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These are all in theory, as in practice it has yet to truly materialize.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Manufacturers Making Production Changes<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FDA regulators are not yet fully monitoring or intervening these problems as much as some researchers believe, there has been a concerted movement to enhance the sticky parts of diabetes devices to be more skin-friendly and comfortable. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dexcom is one<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> company that has made the change in the adhesive it previously used to avoid the allergen ethyl cyanoacrylate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dexcom sensors manufactured after August 2017 have the new adhesive, but many Dexcom users who had struggled with skin irritations noticed the change almost immediately. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They began reporting fewer rashes or breakouts as they had previously. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dexcom changed its adhesive again in 2020 &#8211; determining which part of the adhesive is actually problematic can be an intensive research project involving complicated lab tests across various allergens.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Searching for Solutions<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Among the many different medical adhesive wipes and tapes, Skin Tac, and Flexifix Opsite probably top the list as the most popular. Dexcom has a page discussing adhesive issues with best practices and tips for those with sensitive skin. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Diabetes Daily has produced a<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.diabetesdaily.com\/blog\/diabetes-in-30-seconds-how-to-keep-your-pumpcgm-site-on-longer-205645\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">brief video<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on how to keep your pump site on longer.
