It is caused by an improper uric acid ratio in the body. That means either the body isn&#8217;t getting rid of it as it should or is producing too much of it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gout symptoms include redness and pain in the feet, especially around the big toe. Doctors have five tests to determine if patients have gout:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blood test<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ultrasound<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">X-rays<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Joint fluid test<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dual-energy computerized tomography (DECT)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The key thing doctors look for in all these tests are crystals forming in the joints.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>What to expect in treatment?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any treatment that gout patients undertake will need to work from two different angles. The first is to reduce pain and inflammation and the second is to lower the uric acid in the blood.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Traditional Medicine<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.harvard.edu\/diseases-and-conditions\/the-new-old-way-to-treat-gout\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Treatments <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">can be traditional, non-traditional, or a combination. Traditional medication includes medications like nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and other drugs like colchicine and corticosteroids.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Non-Traditional Treatments<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many find that using<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/health\/gout-treatments#alternative-treatments\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> alternative treatments <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to change eating and drinking habits, along with lifestyle modifications, helps reduce gout pain and complications. Some of those include<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No one can cure gout but proper diagnosis, medications, and lifestyle changes can reduce its effects.
