How to Implement a Mantra Meditation

Mantras are a misunderstood practice that can relieve stress and change your mindset. Some may consider them as a type of magic but that isn’t their purpose. Mantras steer focus and place your goals or desires at the forefront of your mind.

Mantra meditation has positive physical effects on your body. It can lower your blood pressure and reduce stress.

How to Do a Mantra Meditation

The most important thing in implementing a mantra into your meditation is to find the right one for you. To do that, you need to determine your intention.

The intention is important to implementing a mantra that does what wants it to do. Intentions could be to develop your spiritual side, to relax, or to reduce negativity. It could also be to improve your self-esteem or attract positive things to you.

Putting It in You Meditation

Now, it’s time to implement your mantra into your meditation practice. There are some basic principles to make the most of your meditation time.

Find a comfortable position in a room that is quiet and where you can be alone. The first time you meditate may take longer than other times, especially if you feel weird about it. It’s best if the room is darker because you don’t want your senses overstimulated.

Once you are comfortable, take a moment to focus on your body. Center your focus on where you feel tension. Breath, release the tension with your breath, and settle your mind.

Say your mantra slowly, deliberately, and repeat it. Pay attention to how it sounds and concentrate on each word. Pause when you need it and go on as long as you want.

Repeating mantras is similar to rewiring the brain. It takes time for all your brain’s energy to change course and fire up new, positive sections.
