5 Things to Talk About on the First Date

First dates are always the hardest, especially if you are not confident about dating and talking to someone you just met.

In fact, nearly half of the adults in the US say that dating has become more challenging in the last 10 years.

Here are a couple of things that you should ask your date and discuss on the first date to break the ice and find out if you two are compatible for the long run.

1. Ask about their talents.

Instead of asking them what they do for a living, ask them something else like their talents or hobbies.

Asking someone what they do for a living is not very polite nowadays, and it could even sound condescending.

2. Ask a philosophical question.

By asking something profound on the first date, you will understand their morality and spirituality.

For example, ask them about their stand against poverty, war, and more.

This way, you will find out if you two have the same idea of morals.

3. Address the deal-breakers.

To avoid conflict in the future, you should address your likes and dislikes as early as the first date.

If you are in the game for the long-term, you want to know if the person you are about to date is open to having kids, marriage, etc.

4. Ask about family and friends.

A simple phrase like “tell me about your family” can carry an entire conversation.

If they sound too sensitive to talk about their family, try to get them to open up and find out why.

If not, you can ask about their friends.

5. Ask their perception of what a “good life” is.

The concept of living a good life is different for everybody.

Therefore, knowing their thoughts about this concept is a must to find out if you want to be with that person for the long term.
