Five Penis Problems You Should Know About

 Talking to your doctor about your painful penis is never an easy conversation, but it is important. If your penis is in pain during or after sex, you need to speak to your medical provider. It could be caused by an injury, a skin infection, a sexually transmitted infection or even from bike riding. 

Genital Herpes

If you have an open lesion or blistering on your penis, you may have one of the herpes simplex viruses (HSV). HSV-2 causes genital herpes. HSV-1 is the type that causes cold sores. You may have a burning sensation before you have a break out. Antiviral medication can lessen the outbreaks and painful symptoms, but there is no cure. 

Peyronie’s Disease

A curvature of the penis, known as Peyronie’s Disease, can cause your penis to hurt.  This disease is caused by trauma to the penis. It can be caused by rough sex, or a sports related injury. If the penis is fractured, scar tissue can build up under the skin of the penis causing it to curve. Penile injections and medications can help correct the curvature with surgery being an option in some cases. 

Lichen Sclerosus

When the skin on your penis has white patches on it and it itches, it could be lichen sclerosus. This disease can lead to skin tears on the penis. Topical medication can help these symptoms. 

Pudendal Neuralgia

If you are an avid bike rider and have pain in your penis or scrotal area, it could be pudendal neuralgia. Men who lift weights or do heavy lifting on the job The nerve becomes inflamed causing pain. Lifestyle changes, medication and physical therapy can all help relieve the pain. 

Urethritis

A bacterial infection in the urethra can cause pain, burning and discharge. Antibiotics can usually clear the infection.
