Getting Your Groove Back in Winter

Winter is not kind to men’s libidos. Just as reduced sunlight and cooler temperatures can cause seasonal
depression, they also reduce men’s libido.

A key reason for the libido drop during winter is lower testosterone. Men’s testosterone starts hitting the lowest point of the year from November until April. Scientists link the drop directly with a lack of sunlight. Most believe the increasing light beginning in spring helps men produce more testosterone.

Men hit a high level of testosterone in August after a long summer of sun.

Enhancing testosterone in winter

Most men turn to medication to raise their testosterone levels but European scientists believe that exposing men to more light during the dark days of winter. Most believe that light therapy can boost testosterone and increase sexual satisfaction just as it helps others deal with seasonal depression.

A study did prove this to be an accurate theory. Half of the males participating in the study spent 30 minutes of their mornings in a UV-filtered lightbox. The other half were given a placebo light treatment. The study
lasted two weeks.

The men in the UV-filtered group were shown to triple their sexual satisfaction level and shows increased testosterone levels. The men in the placebo group had no change in either category.

How to use the info

Men can use this information in a few ways to increase their libido during the winter. They can get more
natural sun or try ultraviolet light in a tanning salon. You can also take vitamin D as that is the element the sun produces when it shines on you. Statistics show most Americans don’t get enough vitamin D anyway.

Those with low testosterone should talk to their doctor about appropriate light therapy that could help their libido.

Conclusion

No one should have to suffer from low sex drive during the winter season. There are plenty of safe ways to
increase it and one may be just outside your door in the sunshine.
