Wegovy® (semaglutide) injection 2.4 mg is a prescription medication approved for long-term weight management. This treatment is used as an addition to a reduced-calorie meal plan and increased physical activity.
In a pivotal 68-week clinical trial involving adults with obesity or overweight with weight-related comorbidities, Wegovy® demonstrated a significant reduction in body weight compared to placebo. While individual results will vary, the study found that participants using Wegovy® lost an average of 15% of their initial body weight from a baseline of about 232 lbs, compared to an average loss of 2.5% in the placebo group.

Ongoing treatment with Wegovy® has been shown to be key for maintaining weight loss. Clinical evidence indicates that individuals who continued on Wegovy® after an initial 20-week period achieved further weight reduction, whereas those who were switched to a placebo regained a significant amount of weight. In a separate two-year study, participants maintained an average weight loss of approximately 15% (about 35 lbs) from a baseline of around 233 lbs.
Beyond weight reduction, clinical trials for Wegovy® noted improvements in several other health measures. These included reductions in waist circumference, systolic blood pressure, and lipid levels, as well as better blood sugar control.
