There are a number of potential explanations for a reduced sex drive. For example, it is not uncommon for people to have less interest in having sex because of either a physical health problem or a mental health problem.

However, a recent study of 4,839 men and 6,669 women who had at least one sexual partner in the past year revealed that people who had been in a long-term relationship for at least one year's time tended to have less interest in sex, which was noticeable in both men and women but particularly so for women.

This is not particularly surprising. After all, the benefits of long-term relationships are well-known, with examples ranging from a sense of security to plenty of human companionships. However, the same routineness that provides such relationships with much of their charm is what makes sex less interesting for a significant percentage of people in long-term relationships. As a result, this is why people complain about the honeymoon phase of a relationship is over.

Fortunately, while people who were in long-term relationships tended to have less interest in sex than people who were not, there were still plenty of people who were perfectly satisfied with their sex lives. Essentially, the problem is routineness, which is why those who are willing to experiment when it comes to having sex tend to find this to be less of a problem than those who choose to stick to their routines no matter what that might cost them.

As a result, people should consider switching things up when it comes to their sex life, whether that means experimenting to determine the best time of the day to have sex or experimenting with various approaches, locations, and positions.

For that matter, interested individuals should also make sure to communicate with their partners in an open and honest manner either with or without the help of a therapist, which can help them make sure that sex remains fun for both of them. Simply put, less interest in sex is a problem, but it is far from being an insurmountable one.
