Couple on a date

Why Aren’t People Dating?

A national survey from 2019 showed that almost half of the adults in the U.S. said dating is harder now than it was 10 years ago.

Some of that response stems from almost 65% of women stating they were harassed by someone they dated.

But there are plenty of other reasons for the draw down on dating. Five seem to top the list.

Fear of Committing

Some of this fear can also be attributed to a low value of marriage.

Marriage should be the ideal, something to strive for but most see it as something that restricts you.

Many see it as something unnecessary.

It’s Expensive

This can be a real issue for men particularly since they are still expected to pay for the date most of the time.

Even going Dutch treat can drain you if you are going out a lot.

There’s a Gender War

This gets a little complicated but feminism on steroids has hurt the dating scene.

Women automatically think men are pigs and men, because of previous experiences with ex-wives and
previous girlfriends, think women are only after money.

A broad sweep of genders doesn’t allow for you to meet truly neat people.

It’s Time Consuming

This probably should be ranked as one of the top reasons people don’t want to date now.

Dating does take time out of your day. If you aren’t into it, it can be a drag and feel more like a chore.

What Should You Do?

The first thing to do is address all the reasons why you hate dating or don’t want to date.

Some may be past experiences or hurt from a previous long-term relationship.

Try to make dating more relaxed and fun. Get with friends for group outings and maybe invite a potential date to one of those.

Meet them for an activity rather than a formal dinner and movie.

Start by talking to the potential date on the phone or by text a couple of weeks before agreeing to a date.

You will start to look forward to dating once you realize that dating can be fun and doesn’t have to be filled with pressure to have a relationship.
