For men who like to stay on top of men’s fashion trends, here’s a list of some of style “must-haves” for 2019.
- Neon: From bright yellows and hot pinks, fluorescents are back from their height of fashion popularity (circa 1985), but now they’re incorporated into all facets of men’s wear. Look for them in dress slacks, casual shirts and scarves.
- Pockets: It’s not just about “the more, the merrier.” Pockets are taking over coats and pants in numbers and size. Zippers and bold buttons help fasten down whatever you’re carrying in a fashion statement that says, “I’ve come prepared for anything.”
- Dad jeans: It was only a matter of time before skinny jeans made way for their more comfortable counterpart. You can pull off the look with the right accessories and shirt; just skip the exceptionally high waist.
- The color sage: Settling in perfectly between gray and green, this olive-like color is manifesting in a range of men’s fashion: suits, separates and even sneakers. Pair it with white, cream or gray with a bold maroon or plaid tie.
- Hiking sandals: These shoes are sort of a hybrid between sandals you’d wear with casual shorts and hiking boots you’d wear on a tame trail. They aren’t made for strenuous hiking, but they may offer more traction than traditional sandals.
- Wrap-arounds: Similar to women’s wrap-around sweaters that may tie on the side, wrap-around for men include coats, shirts and sweaters.
- Short shorts: This 1970s style is raging again and male models are looking particularly leggy on runways as they show off a style typically reserved for female athletes.
- Handbags for men: Clutches, cross-bodies and shoulder bags are all being paired with more traditionally male suits and casual wear.
- Double-breasted exaggerated suits: Bigger and less “stuffy” than the more tailored look of recent years, these oversize suit coats remind us the early 1990s.
- Tie dye: Beyond the t-shirt, the tie dye trend for 2019 is showing up in blazers, suits and vests.
