What is Neo-Prep Fashion?

Prep fashion has been around for centuries, and it is starting to make a comeback.

Although fashion trends will inevitably make a comeback whether you like it or not, there is always something different as they evolve.

Prep, or college Ivy League fashion, has been around for a while. It is a classic style or preppy fashion that elite American private school and university students brought to life back in the 1950s and 1960s.

However, many brands that used to design preppy fashion clothes have closed down, but the inevitable comeback is not just for the American elite anymore.

Japan recently created its take on neo-prep fashion trends, reminiscent of the classic preppy look, but evolved into a more Eastern style that modernizes the look.

The classic Ivy League look

The classic preppy look involves wearing neat shirts with coats and badges that showcase your Ivy league school.

You can also wear accessories, such as scarves, beanies, and patches that represent your school, and match them with knitted cardigans, an overcoat, some khakis, and preppy shoes to complete the look.

However, because the Japanese and Korean influenced the style, you can have the same look, even if you are not one of those preppy kids you used to hate.

Neo-prep with Eastern influence

Neo-prep fashion looks so good these days, and the best part about it, anyone can get into it.

Whether you are from an Ivy League school or not, the classic look will live on.

Make sure you watch a lot of K-dramas to get the look right.

How to dress Neo-prep?

It’s all about layers. You can wear scarves, sports coats, sweater vests, and more.

However, to modernize the look, you can wear joggers instead of khakis, and stay away from the 90s “Clueless” printed patterns.

Another neo-prep staple is the polo shirt and tie. You can wear a sweater vest over it, but make sure the tie is out and the fit is relaxed.

The slacks or jeans shouldn’t be too tight or too baggy.
