Sandwich wraps on a plate

9 Hidden Foods That Cause Weight Gain

Those trying to lose weight will try anything the next magazine article says is the superfood that offers almost magical results. The problem is they may be fighting with hidden food elements that work against their diet.

Sandwich wraps

A typical wrap is 310 calories before you add anything so they are more fattening than a regular sandwich with sliced white bread which has 130 calories for two slices.

Peanut butter

Peanuts are good for you.  Peanut butter isn’t as healthy as it is packed with sugar and oils.

Protein shakes and bars

Many of these products are loaded with sugar and other elements that inhibit losing weight and none can replace a good nutritious meal.

Natural foods

The problem with natural foods is the labeling. Some claim to have natural flavors but use high fructose corn syrup.

Low-fat foods

Low-fat foods have a similar labeling problem. Sure, they may have skimmed the fat but food manufacturers then add other stuff to substitute. This can be a carbohydrate like a maltodextrin, which will not help in weight loss.

Diet sodas

Diet sodas are one of the worst things you can drink if you are on a diet. The artificial sweeteners in them work against you by giving you uncontrollable food urges later.

Energy drinks

Energy drinks are diet disasters in a can. People are tricked into thinking they include things like vitamins, amino acids, and herbal extracts but what they include is sugar. Some energy drinks can have as many as 280 calories.

Sea salt

It’s not that sea salt is bad. It’s just that it isn’t any healthier than regular salt but people use more thinking it’s healthy.

Kale

The reason kale made the list is that it isn’t the healthiest green around. Spinach, collards, Romaine lettuce, parsley, and even chives are healthier and better for diets.

Those seeking diet solutions should stop reading so much marketing and read labels. The truth of what is in a product is in the fine print.
