5 Ways to Get More Sleep

Sleep is the kind of thing that you don’t think much about until you are not getting enough of it. And for many men, that is definitely the case. With all the pressures of the day: work, family, relationships, exercise, etc., it is no wonder that men are often in a sleep deficit situation. There are several ways that you can improve the quantity and quality of sleep.

1. Try a James Bond Shower

You may have heard that a shower at the end of the day will relax you, but have you ever considered a James Bond shower? This type of shower starts with hot water, and then for the last few minutes of the shower you use cold water. This stimulates your body into more deep sleep.

2. Sleep in a cool room

The temperature of water is not the only factor in getting a good night’s sleep. If your room is too hot, you will not be able to fall asleep well. Cool down the thermostat between 60-67 degrees Fahrenheit in order to make the most of your sleeping time.

3. Use white noise

The same type of technique to get a baby to “sleep like a baby” will also work on you! Perhaps you should steer clear of running water white noise unless you want to keep running to the bathroom, but any other soothing white noise will work.

4. Avoid alcohol and sleeping pills

Although it seems like alcohol would settle you down to sleep at night, this is not really the case. Although you might fall asleep, you will not sleep very well. Sleeping pills should also be avoided, as they make you groggy the next day and really don’t add that much sleep time.

5. Have a snack

Eating before bed and the effect it has on your insulin will help you to fall asleep faster and stay asleep. Eat a carb-heavy snack to help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer.

Like your health, sleep is a commodity you want to do all you can to protect.  By using the helpful hints above, you should be able to get more valuable shut eye and tackle your days with more energy.
