New Hope for Those Who Suffer From Diabetes

Diabetes is a debilitating disease that affects a patient’s entire life. From reduced circulation and the fear of amputation, to heart trouble and related problems, diabetes is a disease to avoid at all costs. One of the major contributors to diabetes is obesity. Scientists have been studying and searching for ways to help people control their obesity in order to decrease the risk of diabetes.

A new study brings hope

There is a new study that looks at those who suffer from obesity, and it is bringing hope for those who end up battling diabetes because of their weight.  Science Daily reported that “One third (35%) of people who took a new drug for treating obesity lost more than one-fifth (greater than or equal to 20%) of their total body weight, according to a major global study involving UCL researchers.”

The new drug Semaglutide interrupts the body’s own systems which regulate hunger in the brain, and lead a patient to eating less. The results have been very astounding.

Involving 2000 people in 16 countries, about one-third of the people lost a fifth of their body weight. This is truly a game changer!

Health ramifications of Semaglutide

Covid has taught the health community so much about obesity and other related diseases. It is very obvious that people who are obese have a larger chance of dying from Covid, as well as contracting a myriad amount of diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease, kidney problems, and others.

If patients who are obese can lose 20% of their body weight, this is great news for them being able to avoid long term problems associated with obesity, such as diabetes.

In conclusion, scientists are considering the use of Semaglutide to be a game changer, and are optimistic that it will change things for the better for all those who suffer from diabetes.
