New Drink From PepsiCo Could Aid in Sleep

The pandemic has altered the sleeping patterns of many Americans. With added stress, sleep becomes more difficult. PepsiCo is about to launch a new drink that could help lull you to sleep during these trying times.

Driftwell will be on the market in 2021

The new drink called Driftwell is a flavored water drink that contains 200 milligrams of L-theanine, an amino acid that’s found in green tea. Several studies have linked this compound to better sleep quality.

The drink will be in a 7.5 oz mini can and come in one flavor: Blueberry Lavender.

The company plans to release the product to online sources by the end of the year and then place it in stores during the first quarter of 2021.

The demand is high

Right now, the demand for this kind of beverage is soaring. While the company didn’t come up with the idea to solve COVID-induced insomnia, they’re happy that it could provide relief for those tossing and turning.

“I think we’re launching this at a time when there’s more consumer interest than there previously was, given everything that’s going on from a macro perspective,”  Emily Silver, vice president of innovation and capabilities at Pepsi’s North American beverages unit said.
