CrossFit CEO Outlines First Session

Don Faul, who took over as CrossFit CEO in August, said the workout will tell you the truth about your fitness level. A former U.S. Marine Corps platoon commander, Faul said his first CrossFit workout surprised him.

The First Time in a CrossFit Gym

Faul thought he was in good shape, Faul said. He always exercised, had been through numerous military workouts, and maintained a good diet so he thought CrossFit wouldn’t be hard. Yet, it left him feeling like he had been lying to himself all this time about his fitness level.

That is what prompted him to continue. Faul knew he could improve. He now believes that CrossFit is needed more than ever and not just because it gets people into shape. He said CrossFit provides something more
because it also establishes strong personal connections among its members.

“I’ve experienced the impact of CrossFit firsthand, seeing how it helps people improve their fitness, reverse chronic disease, and build meaningful connections with other members of the CrossFit community,” Faul said.

The State of CrossFit

CrossFit has 14,000 affiliates globally but the trend suffered greatly after the world was locked down in the pandemic. It hasn’t fully recovered as some people remain fearful of gyms and other public places.

Habits also changed with Covid-19 surging around the world and one of those that changed was people stopped going for gym workouts. They got used to staying home instead.

Faul said CrossFit has helped millions to change their lives in sometimes dramatic fashion. He said the
company is just getting started. There are “tens of millions” of people to reach, he said.

Conclusion

Don’t be discouraged by your first workout. Anyone considering CrossFit should talk to the instructor before you go to a workout about your fitness, limitations and abilities. The instructor will tell you how the workouts can be modified for your fitness level.

Those who need social interaction will find CrossFit a good place to be. It is a highly social community with members helping each other to get into shape.
