Taking CrossFit Outside

CrossFit gyms have sprung up all over the country but that doesn’t mean all of your CrossFit workouts have to remain inside. As winter starts falling away to the milder weather of spring, consider trying a WOD outside.

Taking it outside

CrossFit is one of those workouts that is so versatile you can adapt it anywhere. After all, the basis of WODs is to do movements you typically do daily anyway. That makes it a great workout to do outside.

Four specific exercises work well for an outdoors CrossFit routine. Those are overhead lunges, sprints, burpee broad jump, and a bear crawl. These also make for a great routine to use on a hill. You can add 10 pushups, 10 air squats, and 10 sit ups once you reach the top of the hill.

Air squats, burpees, and planks are all favorites of those who do CrossFit outdoors. You can work any of those into a routine that gives you some serious strength and endurance. You can create your own routine based on the surroundings you are working out in.

The Full Murph

CrossFit has routinely been done outside with fresh air and new experiences. In fact, CrossFit has specific
outside workouts for Memorial Day to make the most of celebrating summer.

It’s called the Full Murph and takes about an hour. This workout includes a mile run, 100 pullups, 200 pushups, 300 air squats, and a second 1-mile run at the end. The only problem, according to CrossFitters, is finding a pull-up station as all parks don’t have exercise stations. However, you can use a tree.

Conclusion

You don’t have to keep your CrossFit routine hidden in a gym. There is nothing like a change of pace to spark motivation for exercise. Take your workout to a park or even your yard for a different view and experience.
