If you are like most people during the pandemic, you are trying to hold on to as much normalcy as possible. In this case, keeping up with your exercise is extremely important. The CrossFit community has long been known to push people to their bodily limits, and also offer immense support.
This year is no different, as the The CrossFit Open, the largest participatory sporting event in the world, is even more important this year after the struggles people have gone through with Covid-19. And this year’s event, of course, is quite different, as participants compete in their home gym, at their own houses, and then eventually in a semi-finals in person if they make it that far.
5 Changes to this year’s event
- There is a master’s division, a team division, and this year a new adaptive division so everyone can participate.
- 10% of Open athletes will participate in the world quarterfinals.
- There will be ten semifinal events across six continents. These will be as safe as possible, with participants at a safe distance, equipment scoured, and other safety practices in place.
- There is a “last chance” qualifier for anyone who narrowly missed. Even if you missed the semi-final victory, if you were close you still might have a chance.
- Live finals will take place in Wisconsin at the end of July.
The event schedule
CrossFit athletes understand that their biggest competition is with themselves. But in this year of uncertainty, it is nice to be part of something bigger than ourselves, and especially with a sport you love. This year’s schedule will take up the entire spring and part of the summer.
- The Open competition begins in local gyms and homes in early March.
- The Quarter Finals are in April in local gyms.
- The Semi Finals take place in May and June in locations across six continents.
- The CrossFit Finals take place in Madison, Wisconsin in July.
No matter what level of fitness you currently have, the CrossFit Open games are something to strive for. How nice it is to know there is a world full of people challenging themselves with the sport that you love. That should definitely be inspiring for your own workouts!
