Life is stressful right now, especially with mounting concerns over the Coronavirus. One of the best ways to manage stress is to meditate. However, it’s best to meditate in a dedicated space that helps you relax and unwind. This doesn’t require a huge remodeling project, it just requires some creativity.
You can turn even a small space in your home into a calming meditation spot. Here are some tips to make such an area:
1. Find a happy spot
Pick a room in your home that makes you feel at ease. This probably isn’t the kitchen, where dishes remind you of the chores that should be done or the laundry room where a pile of dirty clothes taunts you. Maybe it’s a quiet corner in your bedroom, a spot on a patio, or hallway nook, or even an unused closet.
2. Clean the area
To meditate, the area should be free of clutter. Once you pick a spot, get rid of any junk, clutter, or other stuff that’s stored there.
3. Add some nature
Nature is organically relaxing, so consider adding a plant or two, fresh-cut flowers, jars filled with sand and seashells, or even a small water feature.
4. Play meditative sounds
Have a small sound system nearby to play soothing sounds. From the sound of the ocean to water falling in the rain forest, these sounds will help you get centered.
5. Consider aromatherapy
You can add a candle, a diffuser, or some incense to the area as well. Consider lavender, chamomile, and peppermint scents for relaxation.
6. No tech allowed
Your meditation area shouldn’t have any technology. You don’t want to be distracted by the ding of an email coming in or the sound of a TV playing in the background. Meditation is about finding a calming, soothing place to take stock of your mind, body, and soul – and that’s hard to do with your phone in your hand.
