When You Fall of the Wellness Wagon, Here’s What to Do

You’re exercising, eating right, and feeling good. And then, something happens. It can be anything really. Maybe you get sick. Maybe you take a business trip. A hiccup in your routine throws off your diet and exercise. We’ve all been there.

Once you fall off the wellness wagon, it’s not always easy to get back on. To help, here are some tips to resume your healthy habits:

Learn what triggers your healthy routine

What part of your routine is crucial to your healthy habits? Do you set an alarm to work out? Do you need to exercise to make healthy food choices during the day? Think about your routine and what makes it work.

Get back to that routine

Once you understand what you need to do to stay healthy, make the changes to your routine. Maybe that naturally happens when you return from a work trip or feel better after a cold, but if there’s another obstacle stopping you, remove it.

Don’t be hard on yourself

Too often people try to make up for lost time, and it’s defeating. For example, if you usually run two miles every morning and you’ve missed three days in a row, you don’t have to run six miles to make up for lost time.

Focus on resuming the activity, not making up for the time you didn’t log.

Don’t stress out

Exercise is meant to relieve stress, not create it. Try not to get too wrapped up or bothered by the time you took off. Again, it’s more important to resume your healthy habits as soon as possible.

Shake it up

Did you break your healthy routine because you were bored? It happens. If you’re not motivated to work out, maybe it’s time to shake it up. Try a different kind of exercise, go for a walk outside, run on a local outdoor track, or work out with a friend to add some variety to your work out.
