Don’t Let the Cold Impede Your Workout Goals

As cold weather sneaks into your neighborhood, it isn’t time to give up on your workout goals. It’s time to find innovative and fun ways to exercise to beat the winter blahs. There are plenty of winter sports that can keep you heart pumping and work your muscles. Snowshoeing, cross country skiing, downhill skiing, even snowball fights in your yard, will get your moving. Don’t forget climbing steep hills for that fast sled run also works your heart and muscles. Of course, running in the winter is still possible.

Keep Dry with Moisture Wicking Layers

When the temperatures drop into the 40s℉ or lower, you need to be prepared to layer up to stay warm. You can shed the layers when you get too warm, but even better is to invest in some clothes with moisture wicking properties. These properties are known to help regulate your body temperature by pulling the sweat away from your body. The recommendation from REI Coop suggests, “To be able to wick sweat efficiently, your next-to-skin layer needs to actually be next to your skin. So a comfortably snug fit everywhere is your goal.”

Keep Your Face Warm

Add a scarf, bandana, balaclava or neck gaiter to protect your face, nose and ears. These items will help warm the air you breathe and prevent the cold from affecting your lungs when the temperatures plummet.
