Five Tips for an Exciting Date Night

You’ve been talking to a friendly woman at the coffee shop for a couple weeks or maybe the woman working out next to you on the treadmill seems interested. You get up your nerve and ask her out. She says yes! You haven’t dated lately, so what should you do to plan for the date.

Just Ask!

Don’t be afraid to ask her what she likes. Whether you call her, text her to stay in touch, find out her interests. The more you know about her likes and dislikes, the more comfortable she will be on your date. If you know she likes hiking and seafood, plan a daytime canyon hike with an early evening dinner on the shoreline. If know she is afraid of snakes though, steer clear of that hiking trail where the ringneck snake lives.

Make a Good First Impression

Think hygiene, clothes, then shoes. Don’t go on a date smelling like BO. Take a shower, dress casual but neat. Put on a shirt with no wrinkles, clean pants and your favorite shoes that aren’t torn.

Put the Phone Down and Listen

You are there to meet a new person and to see if you have a connection. Engage in conversation and show that you understand her. A Stanford study explained, “Women reported a sense of connection to men who used appreciative language (“That’s awesome” or “Good for you”) and sympathy (“That must be tough on you”).”

No Ex Discussions

Don’t talk about your past relationships, whether it was marriage, or a long term partnership. Believe me, she doesn’t want to know.

Relax and Have Fun!

Smile, laugh and enjoy the company. This is a date for a few hours, not a lifetime commitment. If it doesn’t work out, it’s okay. Honest.
