4 Tips to Say Active During COVID

COVID-19 has changed a lot of things, including workout routines. Most gyms and fitness centers were ordered to close in an effort to contain the virus. Whether you plan to return to the gym when they reopen or not, there are still ways to stay active during this unusual time in our lives.

To stay fit, here are a few ideas:

  1. Exercise outdoors

COVID-19 may have shuttered gyms, but the outdoors is still open. Consider going for a walk in the morning or after dinner to get a little exercise. If you live in an urban area that’s more crowded, try to go on off times that reduce your interaction with crowds.

  1. Enjoy recess with your kids

Kids are home now more than ever, but that doesn’t mean recess should be canceled. When the kids go outside to burn off some energy, go with them. Try to engage them in a few activities that get everyone’s heart rate moving.

  1. Try online workouts

Since more people are indoors, the use of online workout videos has become quite popular. There are plenty of free workouts online or you can download an app or two that offer quick, structured workouts.

If you have kids, there are specific workout routines online that will engage with them too. Try to follow along while the kids are “working out” to get a little extra exercise.

  1. Set up a garage gym

If you miss the workout atmosphere, consider buying cheap workout gear and setting it up in your garage. There are plenty of affordable pieces of exercise equipment online, or consider looking on sites like Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace to snag a deal on something used from a seller in your area.

It’s important not to let quarantine create a sedimentary lifestyle. Everyone needs exercise to stay happy and healthy.
