5 Things You Shouldn’t Do on the First Date

Dating is hard. Whether you met someone in real life or through an online dating app, here are a couple of tips of what you should not do on the first date, primarily if you aim to get to know the person better and go on follow-up dates.

1. DO NOT be rude to restaurant staff.

Many people might find dominance a good trait, but there is a fine line between authority and just being plain awful.

Show your date that you are polite when talking to staff, and impress your date with how respectful you are to everyone, even in the most uncomfortable situations.

2. DO NOT talk about your ex.

Talking about your ex too much, especially on the first date, is a major turn-off.

Plus, it shows your current date that you are still hung up or not over your ex, which will lead to an unpleasant date. So even if your ex was awful to you, you don’t want to bring it up on the first date.

3. DO NOT check your phone too much.

Constantly checking your phone or the clock is a sign that you are not enjoying your night out with the person, so make sure you keep your phone in your pocket and clear all your appointments before your big date.

4. DO NOT come late.

Punctuality is a significant factor when dating, and it could be a red flag to the other person if you show up late.

If you don’t show up first, at least be on time for the date to reduce the bad vibes early on.

5. DO NOT offer unsolicited advice.

Never offer unwanted advice, even if your date is opening up to you about a problem.

They are just probably looking for someone to listen to. Plus, without enough data or context, you don’t want to be saying the wrong things.
