One thing about the technology age is it has made everyone more isolated than ever.
Sure, you talk online but having a real conversation as you would on a date is an awkward experience.
Some topics should be avoided until you get to know the person more intimately.
Improper conversations on a first date could be why there isn’t a second one.
What Should You Avoid?
Here are six topics to avoid at all costs.
- Never talk about your ex.
The person you are with wants to know you chose to be with them and aren’t still hung up on a past relationship.
- Yourself.
Sure, you will need to share some things about yourself, your job, and your interests. Even so, avoid keeping the topic on you. Answer the question your date asks and then ask your date a similar one.
Also, avoid bragging about your accomplishments as that is a big no-no.
- Money
The first date is never the time to discuss money. That includes how much or how little you make. It also means never to ask your date how much they are making, if they are “doing well,” or any type of subtle questions to pry about their finances.
- Drama
Drama may exist in your life. It could be with family, friends, or at work. This is not something to discuss on a first date. No one wants to hear drama.
- Sex
Many people move fast these days, but sex remains a taboo topic for the first few dates.
- Marriage and kids
This is not a subject to bring up in the first few dates.
It is asking your date if they could see getting married to you and they just aren’t ready for that yet.
This subject is the number one subject that will scare people off and prevent them from getting to know you.
Understanding basic dating etiquette and timing for certain subjects is always a good thing.
Dating can be casual but isn’t something to be taken lightly.
