Three Biggest Problems with Modern Dating

It’s safe to say that dating isn’t the same as it was 20 or 30 years ago. Now, there are apps, criminal
background checks and a lookout for drugs. That doesn’t sound romantic but it’s the reality.

Yet, those aren’t the only problems with modern dating. As it turns out, those in the dating world say there are other big issues. Here’s a look at some of the primary ones.

Harassment

Data states that harassment and pressure for sex affects both women and men. Around 57% of women said they felt harassed by someone they dated while 35% of men said they felt either harassed or pressured into doing things they didn’t want to do.

Pandemic regulations

The pandemic kept everyone locked down for such a long period that it’s no wonder people are anxious about dating. Some people lost social skills during the lockdown and need to redevelop in-person skills.

Then, there’s the practical side of things. People need to know how you feel about wearing masks and whether you are vaccinated. Deep-rooted feelings about these things go beyond just the mask or health status and get into political feelings so it’s important to understand where a potential date stands.

Ghosting

Ghosting is when a person suddenly ignores the other person. They don’t call them. They don’t return phone calls or text messages. Worst of all, they don’t tell you why. Unfortunately, this type of rude behavior is now
considered normal among those dating.

Psychologists say don’t let ghosting affect you. People do it to avoid confrontation, which means they aren’t mature enough to tell you in person that they aren’t interested or why. Those who ghost others are
self-absorbed, rude people you don’t want or need in your life.

Conclusion

Many of these problems are more prevalent among younger people but seem especially common in
millennials. It hasn’t been determined why younger people seem to lack good dating skills but some speculate being so involved in technology has something to do with it.

Make a plan on how to address these issues directly so that you can date confidently. You deserve respect and should demonstrate that in teaching others how to treat you.
