Casual Fridays aren’t just reserved for the end of the week anymore. COVID has welcomed in a whole new work wardrobe. People are sporting everything from pajamas in their new remote offices (aka their home) to a half-and-half look (dressy on top and casual on the bottom) that allows for professional conference calls. In a post COVID world, fashion trends are likely to change.
Here’s what you’ll see retailers doing:
-
Influencers push more comfy clothes
Brands are working with fashion influencers to push more comfortable clothes or workout outfits. You’ll likely see a surge of women in leggings and men in mesh shorts.
-
Shopping goes (almost) 100% online
Retailers that aren’t online, are moving there. Even thrift shop owners have started selling products online as a way to make money in this economy. Retailers are tasking their employees with taking pictures of their inventory, writing descriptions, and getting online stores ready for consumers.
-
Video selling
Since so many people can’t go into stores, consumers can’t see or touch clothing. To help bridge the gap, retailers will create more videos to showcase their products in a better way.
-
Ease return policies
A growing number of retailers are easing their return policy to encourage people to take a chance on an item. If a consumer doesn’t like the fit or the color, they can simply send it back – no questions asked.
-
Masks become an accessory
Likely, wearing masks will be necessary for months. Many in the fashion industry are donating their time and facilities to create masks for healthcare workers, but once the demand is met, look for designers to start making cooler masks for consumers. Rather than wearing a tired surgical mask or a drab homemade mask, designers will likely create masks with a bit more flair.
