3 Odd Side Effects of Weight Loss

Losing weight is a great way to take control of your health. If you’re eating right and exercising, weight loss has countless benefits. You’ll feel better about yourself and decrease your chances of developing diabetes, depression, sleep apnea, impotence, and heart disease.

While the benefits are numerous, there are some unexcepted – and even a little odd – side effects to weight loss that you might not know about.

  1. Loose skin

Dropping a significant amount of weight could cause loose skin. Your skin stretched over time to accommodate your size, but as you lose weight it doesn’t necessarily mean that your skin shrinks along with your body. This is especially a problem for people who have experienced extreme weight loss.

Solution: Plastic surgery. In extreme cases, surgery is required to remove the excess skin.

  1. Crankiness

You might notice a change in your mood. If you’re feeling cranky or are snapping at your loved ones, it’s probably from your diet. Some diets encourage you to drop carbs, which can mess with your energy levels and make you an unpleasant person to be around.

Solution: Add some carbs back into your diet. Fruits and vegetables have carbs too, so up your intake of these healthy carbs first to see if there’s a change.

  1. Muscle loss

When you work out, most of the weight you lose is fat but some is muscle. (Experts say 2/3 of weight loss is fat, with the other 1/3 being muscle). Muscle loss can make your body feel tired and also hinders weight loss since your muscles help you burn calories.

Solution: Maintain a good protein intake and make sure you have enough strength training in your workout routine.

These three odd side effect of weight loss shouldn’t stop you on your quest to look and feel great. There are solutions to each problem.
