Doctors’ Tour Focuses on Erectile Dysfunction, Men’s Health

From erectile dysfunction to trouble peeing, there are specific reasons men tend to see their doctor. But if were up to doctors Jamin Brahmbhatt and Sijo Parekattil, men would go for regular checkups as frequently as most women do, not just when something is wrong.

Beyond erectile dysfunction

It’s part of the reason the two co-directors of Clermont, Florida’s Personalized Urology & Robotics Clinic do their annual Drive for Men’s Health. The duo covers multiple cities in their 3,000-mile road trip.

As Brahmbhatt explains it, “Men generally don’t start going until they have erectile dysfunction or trouble peeing or someone drags them in there.

This year’s theme is nutrition, and one of the big points of their talks is supplements, which the doctors say can be dangerous. According to a Chicago Tribune article, half of millennial men said they used supplements in an effort to reach their fitness goals.

But Parekattil says they try to warn patients that research is very important because sometimes supplements don’t live up to their promises. In addition, some men who take supplements don’t complement it with diet and exercise.

Advice for men

The doctors recommend that men treat their body like a car. “If you have a red light go off or your tire pressure goes down, you go get that stuff checked because you need your car to get yourself from point A to B,” says Brahmbhatt, which may refer to something like erectile dysfunction, signaling an underlying health issue. “You’re body’s the exact same way. When the red lights go off, like a headache that won’t go away, blood in the urine, you’ve got to get yourself checked.”

Treating erectile dysfunction

For men who do develop erectile dysfunction, it may not end up being a huge cause for concern. Once you rule out health issues, you can talk to your doctor about getting a prescription for Viagra.

Viagra is the most popular erectile dysfunction medicine in the world and works for more than 80% of men.
