Does Frequent Masturbation Reduce Testosterone?

Masturbation has been pointed out to be the cause of a lot of things, one of which is that it is the reason for lowering testosterone levels. Together with other myths surrounding masturbation, this one as well is not true.

Does masturbation increase testosterone?

There isn’t any evidence that shows masturbation causes a drop in testosterone levels but does not mean that it increases it either. Testosterone indeed has something to do with libido and it is clear that increased testosterone levels boost sex drive and which likely leads to sex.

But testosterone levels are different from one person to another and it varies from minute to minute.

That’s why some experts say it may be hard to study. Even if sexual thoughts can lead to sexual arousal, it did not cause any increase in testosterone levels in men. In conclusion, masturbation is not the way to increase your T levels.

How does masturbation affect testosterone levels?

Testosterone in your body attaches itself to two specific kinds of proteins, the sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) and albumin. The albumin carries testosterone through your system while the SHBG controls the amount of testosterone your body utilizes.

The rest of your testosterone, which is the free testosterone, is not linked to those proteins, but instead can flow to attach in any cell in your body, and because you have a smaller amount of free testosterone, masturbation isn’t significantly preventing a drop in testosterone levels in your body.

Some studies have been made regarding masturbation and testosterone although they have been
inconclusive.

In the journal of Basic and Clinical Andrology in 2021 that the hormonal response is measured to masturbation and it was found that it may prevent a drop in free testosterone but not the total testosterone.

But it was a temporary effect and not notable in terms of changing testosterone levels.
