Can Sex Increase Testosterone Levels?

Supplementing with testosterone when your levels are low helps boost sexual function such as having better orgasms and an increase in libido. What we don’t know is if sex itself boosts testosterone levels. Sex and testosterone are connected, but how does it take effect?

How does sex affect testosterone levels?

It’s not that engaging in more sex does not increase your testosterone levels, it’s just that we still don’t know if it does or does not. Sex is a physical activity and exercise is a great way of increasing your testosterone levels.

Strength training in large muscle groups such as the legs and back can increase your testosterone levels by up to 20%. Weightlifting has been proven to raise testosterone in just five minutes.

Is sex an effective exercise?

Although changing to various positions is not going to engage large muscle groups to the point of a muscle building workout, the majority of energetic get-downs will attract your major muscle building group like the whole posterior chain, glutes, and back.

It is difficult to get an increase in testosterone from endurance workouts. Some research shows that healthy men that carry out endurance workouts only notice a boost in their T concentrations after high intensity workouts.

Don’t push yourself in trying to increase T levels with sex that you are not interested in or able to go through. Low libido and erectile dysfunction are the two most common symptoms if your testosterone levels are low.

Even if having sex is not going to affect your testosterone levels, lifting weights will do a lot more if you want a boost. Plus, having sex is a physical activity in itself, so in that application, it does also give a testosterone boost. However, frequent sex does not compare to the boost you can get from exercising regularly.
