Can You Avoid the Middle-Age Spread?

Both men and women can experience weight gain as they hit middle age. This can deflate anyone’s ego and losing weight after 40 can be frustrating. However, there are some things you can do to lose weight, feel better, and be healthier.

Determine Why You’ve Gained Weight

Several reasons exist on why you have gained weight. Some women never lose weight after childbirth. Both men and women can experience hormonal changesduring middle-age that affect their weight. However, the answer may be much simpler.

Many people gain weight in middle age because their lifestyle changed from their youth. People often “settle” into this age and become more sedentary. There is work, kids, larger meals, and TV time. Sometimes there is a lot more fast food and pizza.

Whatever your reason, consider making these three changes:

  • More exercise for yourself.
  • Healthier food for the family.
  • Some time to yourself.

These can be subtle changes but making them will have an enormous impact on your health and weight. Just exercising 15 minutes a day can help lose some weight over time. More vegetables instead of starches will also do your body good.

Everyone needs time to themselves. Most people eat junk food like chips, soda, and ice cream out of stress or depression. It can make us feel better temporarily but it doesn’t do our weight any good.

Taking some time for yourself will reduce your stress and keep you out of the refrigerator.

Conclusion

Middle-age weight gain isn’t something you must accept. There is plenty of thinner, middle-aged people so it doesn’t happen to everyone. You need to figure out how you got here and then you can make the necessary changes to lose weight.

Everyone needs a starting point. Doing these three things will get you started on the right path.
