How Much Should I Weigh for My Age?

If you are noticing weight gain as you age, it is normal because your metabolism isn’t as fast when you were younger.

As you get older, managing your weight can be more challenging, but more fulfilling to maintain through diet and workouts.

With the increase in obesity in the United States, it makes you wonder how much you should weigh for your age.

Here are some things you should know.

Body Mass Index

Body mass index or BMI is a common tool for people to measure a person’s weight-related to their height.

If your BMI is less than 18.5, you are underweight. If it is between 18.5 and 24.9, your weight is ideal for your height.

You are considered overweight if your BMI is between 25 to 29.9.

And anything above 30 means you are obese.

Age is not a factor in BMI for adults. However, it is for children because they are growing.

And that is why the CDC uses a different method for measuring a child’s BMI and uses age as a factor, instead of height and weight.

Average weight for men 20 years and older

The average weight for American men who are 20 years and above is 197.8, with an average height of 5 feet and 9 inches.

Although when you are above 20, age is not a factor when calculating your body mass index, age is a factor if you want to lose weight.

How do you lose weight if you are older?

As you get older, you will lose muscle that burns calories.

With that being said, the best way to burn calories is by working out consistently and consuming fewer
calories as you age.

It is going to be a lot harder to lose that extra weight when you are 30 and above and gets harder every decade.
