Is Intermittent Fasting Effective for Losing Weight?

Many people are trying new ways to lose weight, and one of the newest options is intermittent fasting (IF).

There are studies that prove it to be effective, but without information about it, it is okay to be a little skeptical if it is as safe and effective as other people think.

What is intermittent fasting?

Although, you may only be hearing about intermittent fasting recently, it has been around for quite a while.

It was popularized in a TV documentary by Dr. Micheal Mosely in 2012 and other popular authors and studies.

Intermittent fasting is not like any regular diet where you focus on what to eat. Instead, IF focuses on when to eat.

You can only eat during specific hours during the day to reduce consumption of unneeded calories.

It makes a lot of sense for losing weight since everything you consume that you don’t use will essentially turn into fat, and you only have a couple of hours a day to burn calories.

Is intermittent fasting effective for weight loss?

With intermittent fasting, you might not even need to do intense exercise to lose weight.

Your calorie consumption during the 8 hours can easily be burned without doing anything for the rest of the 16 hours of your day, making intermittent fasting effective. It may sound simple.

However, it is a lot harder than it sounds.

If you are finding it challenging at first, you can always do alternate intermittent fasting.

You can start by doing 2-day intermittent fasting and 2 days without IF, until you can do it for more
consecutive days.

Is intermittent fasting safe?

Intermittent fasting is somewhat safe for most people, but it is not for everyone.

Skipping meals is not ideal for people who are diagnosed with specific illnesses.

If you are not sure whether intermittent fasting is suitable for you, you should ask your doctor before starting.
