Early Signs and Symptoms of Prostate Cancer

Every year there are almost 200,000 new cases of Prostate Cancer in the United States. If that statistic doesn’t shock you, 1 out of every 9 males in the United States will at some point in their life have Prostate Cancer. The good news is that it has a survival rate of 83% chance of survival. The chances of surviving are higher if the cancer is caught earlier and the chances of surviving are lower if the cancer is caught in a later stage.

Here is a list of early signs and symptoms broken into multiple categories. Before we get into this list, just know that some of the symptoms can be symptoms of other problems with the prostate or sexual transmitted diesease.

Bladder Symptoms

  • Daily frequent urination. Some discover this because of waking up at night multiple times to go to the bathroom.
  • Inability to start or stop urination
  • Weak stream of urination
  • Pain or burning sensation when urinating
  • Blood in urine

Sexual Symptoms

  • Erectile dysfunction or difficulty keeping an erection
  • Little to no amount of fluid coming out during ejaculation
  • Pain during ejaculation
  • Blood in semen

Other Symptoms

  • Pain or numbness in the back, chest, and pelvic area
  • Rectum pain or pressure
  • Stiffness in hips, legs, lower back, and pelvis

If you see any of these signs or symptoms this is time to go get a check up. Even though these signs could be symptoms of other diseases or problems, it still needs to be checked. If you don’t have these symptoms it’s recommended that you at least get a prostate exam every year. Yes, prostate exams are known for their awkwardness and uncomfortability but it could be the difference between surviving from the cancer or dying from the cancer.
