5 Things to Do When You Can’t Sleep

There are times when you really want to sleep but you can’t force yourself to snooze.

It can be annoying, make you cranky, feel tired, feel stressed, and most of all, not getting enough sleep is
unhealthy and can lead to fatal diseases.

Although they might not work for everybody, these 5 tips have helped many people get enough rest and avoid the consequences of not getting enough sleep.

If you are having a hard time sleeping, here are 5 things to do when you can’t sleep:

1. Read a story

Reading can help you fall asleep faster. But make sure you try to read a good captivating book or short story that will spark your interest that will take your mind off not being able to sleep.

2. Try to get out of bed

It might sound contradicting, but for some people staying in bed makes it harder for them to doze off. If you cannot sleep, you can try doing something stimulating in dim light, such as reading, organizing your desk, and more. Make sure you don’t use your phone.

3. Visualization

Imagine doing something repetitive like throwing free throws, counting sheep, dancing, or any other activity that sparks your interest. Try closing your eyes and visualizing these events to get sleepy.

4. Breathe

Yoga and meditation help you calm your mind, and breathing deeply is an excellent way to feel relaxed and sleepy when it’s time to go to bed. Make sure you cut noise and your mind as you practice heavy breathing and you will fall asleep in no time.

5. Don’t think about it too much

If you pressure yourself to fall asleep too much because you have appointments and responsibilities the next day, falling asleep will become more difficult. Make sure you remind yourself that it’s not a big deal to ease your mind into slumber.
