6 Tips to Sleep Better When You’re Stressed

Feeling a little stressed? Between financial problems, work troubles, and family issues, there’s plenty to be stressed about. If you’re dealing with stress, it could impact your sleep.

Stress makes it harder to fall asleep. Most people lay in bed and think about the problem, which makes it difficult for your body to find a restful point. So, how do you turn off the stress and fall asleep?

To help, here are some tips to sleep when you’re stressed:

1. Skip screens

Grabbing your phone and scrolling through social media isn’t going to help. Aside from finding more upsetting news, the screen also emits a blue light that makes it hard to fall asleep.

2. Take a hot shower or bath

Get your body into a relaxing state by taking a hot bath or shower. Going from a hot shower to a cooler bedroom helps your body transition to sleep.

3. Try not to think about the problem

If your mind starts to wander to Negative Town, think about something else. Ideally, you’ll think of something positive and relaxing. It can be hard to stop your train of thought, but it’s best not to process stressful thoughts at night. Instead, try to set aside time during the day to access the problem and come up with a creative solution.

4. Workout during the day

You might assume that a workout before bed will tire you out, but sometimes a strenuous activity has the opposite effect. If you’re stressed, working out during the day is a better idea.

5. Try some tea

Consider sipping some chamomile tea before bed as a nice way to calm down before bed.

6. Be mindful

Be aware of your stress level and make adjustments to your bedtime routine to help. Trying to avoid the problem won’t work. It will only interrupt your sleep time and time again.
