Dos and Don’ts to Perfect Your Online Dating Profile

Whether you’re young and looking for love or a bit older and looking for a mature relationship, many people turn to online dating to find a partner. Of course, there are many, many dating apps out there, but they all have one thing in common: You need a dating profile.

A dating profile is like your own webpage on the dating site. It highlights your personality, mentions your interests and hobbies, and includes a picture or two.

When you’re creating an online dating profile, here are some dos and don’ts to consider:

Do: Upload a profile picture

If you want to connect with someone, you have to upload a picture. Fifty-two percent of people say they won’t even look at a profile if a picture is missing.

Some sites give you the ability to upload several pictures. If you’re given the option, add as many pictures as you can.

Your main profile picture should be a solo shot of yourself. Ideally, this picture shows more than just a smiling face. Research shows profile pictures that are full-body shots get the most responses.

Do: Finish the entire profile

If you’re on a dating site, finish the entire profile. Don’t leave any fields blank.

Do: Be honest

It should go without saying, but everything you put on your dating profile should be honest. Too many people waste time adding things to their profile that they think others want to hear. While it might land you a few dates, you probably won’t have much in common with that person.

Don’t: Add any sexual innuendo

Skip the sex references. (Yes, that includes playful sex jokes). It’s a turn-off.

Do: Write your profile when you’re happy

It’s important to create your dating profile when you’re in a good mood. A negative attitude won’t help you create a persona that others want to be around.
