Why You Always Get Back Pain From Sleep

Everyone desires to wake up refreshed and rejuvenated in the morning, ready to face the day’s work with good energy and vigor.

Waking up with back pain can cause major discomforts and delay in kick starting your day.

Prompt identification of the cause of the pain can help you determine how to manage this problem and prevent a recurrence.

Sleeping Positions

Your sleeping position could be the cause of your frequent morning back pain. If you sleep in an awkward position, the natural curve of your spine may be affected and this may cause intolerable pressure on your joints, resulting in back pain.

Sleeping face down on your stomach has been shown to cause back pain. You should consider changing your sleeping position so that you can have a better sleep.

However, if sleeping on your stomach is the only available or convenient position for you, then, supporting your pelvis by placing a pillow under your lower abdomen can help take pressure off your back and minimize pain.

The ideal sleeping position as recommended by experts is that you should sleep on your side or on your back with a pillow placed beneath your knees.

Bad Mattresses

Sleeping on the wrong mattress can cause troubles for your spine and the way it is naturally aligned. In contrast, sleeping on a mattress that provides adequate support and comfort all night long will help maintain the natural position of your spine and prevent you from developing back pain.

Getting a new mattress can greatly improve your sleep but you should keep in mind that a new mattress may cause some discomforts for a few days as your body adjusts to the new sleep surface.

If you are not sure about the right mattress for you, you should seek the help of a professional.

Sleep Hygiene

Back pain may feel even more painful due to inadequate or irregular sleep patterns. Maintaining a consistent routine of sleep-and-wake times can greatly improve your health by giving your body enough restorative rest.

You should consult your health practitioner if your back pain worsens even after making appropriate modifications to your sleeping habit.
