Tips to Date Safely in a COVID World

While the world works to fight the spread of COVID-19, it has altered many aspects of life. The virus has ushered in real concerns about health, financial stability, and isolation.

For those in the dating world, it’s obviously not a great time to meet someone. The idea of meeting a stranger for a first date puts both of you at risk, and it could be all for nothing if you two don’t click.

So, what are singles to do? Dating is still possible during COVID, but – like so many other things – it looks a lot different.

Here are some dating tips:

  • Use dating apps

The younger generation has always been fond of using technology as a dating tool. Now, you have to take it to a new level.

  • Check discussion boards

Dating apps have added discussion boards in hopes of giving singles the chance to mingle in a new way. Hop on and strike up a conversation.

  • Date virtually first

Before COVID, you probably found someone you’re interested in, exchanged a few texts, and set up a date. Well, now your first date (and many following) should be virtual.

What kind of date can you possibly go on? Get creative. Set up a virtual happy hour or dinner. If you’re both gamers, set up a time to play. Use free video conferencing tools or FaceTime to “see each other” without being in the same place.

  • Watch for fraudsters

It’s sad, but there will be people who try to take advantage of the situation. You might find someone who starts asking for help because of the virus. If anyone asks you for money, say no. Think about it, if this person really liked you, would they want to start a relationship off by asking for money? Of course not. No honest person would ask you to help them like this.

It’s a whole new dating world out there, but it’s still possible to meet new people.
