5 Sperm Killers You Should Watch Out For

If you are trying to build a family and have kids, you should watch out for the things that could affect your sperm count and performance.

According to statistics, the fertility rate has gone from 2.52 in 2010 to 2.39 children per woman in 2020.

With that said, you should watch out for these 5 things if you are trying to build a family with your spouse:

1. Too much testosterone

You would think that having too much testosterone is good for your sperm. But however, having too much could shut down the pituitary gland, which is responsible for regulating sperm production. If that is the case for you, then you should definitely monitor your testosterone levels by living a healthy lifestyle.

2. Smoking too much weed

Too much THC can affect sperm count and keep it lower than what you want it to be to conceive a child. THC mimics testosterone and when you smoke too much cannabis, it can cause a hormonal imbalance.

3. Smoking cigarettes

Cigarette smoking can cause your sperm to swim slowly, which is known as having lazy sperm. It can also damage your cells’ DNA cargo. You can also experience this with second-hand smoke so make sure you do not inhale smoke when you are outside and avoid smokers as much as you can.

4. Being overweight

Being obese is linked to having poor sperm. Because obesity lowers testosterone levels and raises estrogen, you could worsen your hormonal situation and have sperm issues. Losing weight, however, can increase your sperm count.

5. Heat

Heat is extremely dangerous for producing sperm. The testicles are designed to stay cooler than normal body temperature, so when you are experiencing severe heat around that area, it could affect your sperm count and performance. Always avoid sitting in hot areas and wearing hot clothes when it gets too warm outside.
